Renting homes have become very popular amongst families but can have pitfalls, as does every vacation experience. At any rate, travelers reading a New York Times article were horrified to hear that so many travelers had adverse experiences with renting homes. One reader remarked, "You can have a bad experience at any vacation rental or at a hotel for that matter."

Another reader suggests, "only renting from a professional management company. We have been very disappointed with rentals from private individuals. Just remember your idea of a clean house may not coincide with their idea of a clean house." Clearly, one must do their due diligence when finding an adequate home for their family vacation.
